AskMeFi should consider making a separate section for travel/location questions June 26, 2006 5:20 AM Subscribe
AskMeFi should consider making a separate section for travel/location questions. Unless I'm going to be in London (Istanbul, Des Moines), I don't have an interest in the question or the answer.
What would you do with the extra 30 seconds a day that you would gain by having these questions moved to a separate section?
That's silly. What if we had a separate section for questions about cats, so that people who didn't own cats didn't have to read them? Then we could have a separate section for questions about dogs, because dogless people don't need to be subjected to questions about dogs.
Maybe you could skim the category under the question, and bypass any from the travel and transportation category.

Yup, silly. And I'm interested in many of those questions, even if I have no plans to go to the place. Go figure.

I think we need a separate section for users who request dumb ponies.

OTOH, it may be useful to split up the travel & transportation category. It's half travel questions and half car questions and they don't really go together.

Much better solution: Allow each user to select categories that they don't want displayed on AskMe. Not sure if that would be too hard on the database.

I guess I haven't been here that long (as of late) so perhaps someone can clear something up for me. Has puke & cry always been such a tactless, belligerent loudmouth, or was he civil at some point? ::winks @ puke::

I'm NOT going to be in Florida in august, can any suggest a good place to have a body disposed of down there? Also, I'm looking for research materials on building nuclear weapons, to sell to terrorists, can anyone point me to a bookstore in Orlando that could help me out, if I were to go to Orlando, which I'm not?

I had no interest in this thread, not in the question itself or any possible answer that might result. Somehow I felt compelled to follow the link, and then read every last comment, some of which I read twice, despite them being not at all relevant or interesting to me. I must be silly or something.

AskMe has sections. That's what the topics and tags are for - filtering. Client-side filtering.
What you're asking for is a drastic server-side change based on your own flimsy whims. That's a dumb idea. Filter things yourself.
Why? When you make drastic, sweeping changes to the server side of things, it affects everyone based on your own preferences. When you make changes to how you filter and view things - even if it means simply ignoring that which bores you rather than using the tags and topics - you affect only your own views of AskMe. Which is how it should be.
There's no good argument for what you're asking for. If we make a section for travel/transportation, then why not one for science? Health? Anuses!? They're already in groups and sections!

On top of the fact that not reading threads is not too onerous a burden, splitting travel stuff into a separate place would greatly diminish the value of travel questions.
I am not planning on going to Chicago, but I did live there for 5 years. I wouldn't go searching for questions about it, but if I happened across one, I might be able to offer a suggestion.
So, there's no problem with the way things are set up, plus the suggested fix to a nonexistent problem would make the world worse off. I vote no.

Hey, I dont give a fuck that you travel the world, buddy...drinking your cappochinos and eating francy french musterd, watching the world cup on your plasma and driving the autobahn in your swanky red frerrari while snorting hashish off a 7-foot-tall ukranian model's bare ass. ....I still live in the same trailer that i grew up in with my 15 cats, and that's just the way i like it!

And if you don't own a mac, those questions are useless. And if you aren't in a relationship, those questions are useless. And if you're male, all the questions about female anatomy are useless.
Shall I go on, or do you get that this request is kind of silly?

On the basis of the complex interplay between light and shadow, and evidence of rather heavy handed use of the extract tool, I'd say that was a photo-shopped image.

Excellent, bugbread. That'll do nicely.
Here, you've earned yourself a "Croissant Of Penultimate Woe and Too Much Fucking Overtime" and a quintuple-shot "Mocha Of I Spent 6 Years At Art Center For This Shit!?"
If anyone wants to go for super mega bonus round points the stream of pee should come out of Ceiling Cat's mouth and nose like some kind of unholy elephant-pee cat-head sprinkler or showerhead thingy.
A single stream would suffice, but ideally there should be judicious use of the clone and heal tools to make distinct streams.

You know, lately, the use of images has really gotten out of hand here. I don't think they should be gotten rid of, because there are times when they are very germane and useful, but lately it's reached the point of abuse. Maybe individual user image posting rights could be controlled by matt, so that abusers could lose the ability to post image tags.
If that ever happens, for the pissing elephant picture above, I hope that fandango_matt gets some sort of permanent exemption; a vested right, as it were, to post pictures.
