Very nice!! If only for the quick chuckle this one gave me. Gosh I just adore the mefisnark sometimes.

The background color looks a little too saturated on my machine, might want to tone it down a little.

As someone who hasn't looked at projects before today -- and who looked for the first time about an hour ago, before you put this up -- this functionality was exactly what I was missing to get context on the whole thing (f'rinstance, how much is a lot of votes.) Great job, great timing.

And while we're on the subject, this site, just posted on the front page does a much better job at choosing text colours for a page with a dark-red background. As it is, the Projects page makes my eyes go a little buggy.

What's weird is the middle brighter red background on that page is 670000, and the original eye-bleeding background was 660000. I toned it down to 551111, but I see their background is slightly darker still. Let me try that darker hue and tone down the white text slightly.

Matt--I don't know that what you need is darker so much as greyed down. Dark or light, the color is ending up too intense.

frykitty, shift-refresh to get the newest CSS, I toned down the color a bunch, it's now much darker and less saturated.

Right now the background color is 4e0101. What I think everyone is suggesting is just way less saturated. like 883838 or something.
Also, why not change the link colors as well?

Color idea: maybe drop the red theme entirely?
Here's a page example with a kind of violet/indigo scheme that seems to go better with the calm blue and green tones of the other pages.
I've just never seen a red page, no matter how well done, that didn't bother me.

this is why it's so much easier to be a coder than a designer. every damn person and their dog thinks they have a valid opinion about colours, but they don't care an iota whether you use a linear or exponential algorithm. thank-god...

Ya, I think that is going in the right direction. Technically, it isn't just 'less saturated', it is also a lot brighter - together, they make the colour more washed out.
You could go even further in that direction: 8F4949 or 964C4C (thank you synthaxis :P).

Tell the purple that it's ugly and I hate it!
I like the blood red, honestly. I just don't like the yellow links on it. I've never liked yellow, though, or understood how others liked it.

I just reworked the colors to something between green and blue. Shift-refresh to see it.
It looks ok on my color calibrated 20" LCD mac, but I have no idea how it looks on laptops in bright sun, old CRTs on a PC, etc.

it is only barely distinguishable from askme for me. if you're gonna drop the (beautiful) red I'd go with that indigo deal above b/c at least it looks like a different color. but, ultimately it doesn't matter much, and clearly (clearly!) there's no way you'll please everyone :).

Yeah, I liked calling Projects "the Red." I'd rather a subdued, easier-on-the eyes red shade, like #A43D3D, than what's there now. Still, what's there now is at least easier on the eyes than the previous incarnation.

The favicon is greenish blue and has been since this morning, but you have to bookmark it again for your browser to drop the cached one.
