Plain text theme problem April 9, 2006 6:16 PM   Subscribe

Using the 'plain text' theme has a very small problem. In MetaTalk if you click on the category/topic of a post, the page it takes you to has the category/topic obscured by a brown box. (Slashing because sometimes it's called a Category and other times a Topic.)

That's funny, I've never noticed that before. The background is hard coded, this is the relevant line

[div class="monthday"][span style="background:#333333;"]Topic: bugs[/span]....

Mod note: it would really be cool to get the code tag back too

The tt tag still works

As does the <code> tag. Did I misunderstand your last comment Jessamyn?

is there a tag you can still use that lets you render HTML brackets literally?

<div class="monthday"><span style="background:#333333;">Topic: bugs</span>

While we're on the topic, the My Comments page in plaintext still has some minor layout issues. The lefthand column with the post content is still squashed into a too-narrow column.

Like I said, minor, but I tend to use that page a lot since it was tweaked into its current form.

(My Posts as well, but I don't post a lot, so I forgot about that...)

stavros, that's an IE css layout bug.

*checks in Firefox*

Crikey, you're right. I use FF at home with the regular stylesheet, and plaintext on IE (well, Maxthon) at work, for super-secret stealth MeFiing (yeah, right), so I hadn't noticed put the dots together before.

Not major enough to spend much time on, then. If I (or someone else) can come up with a css-hack for the issue, would you consider using it?

Yeah, totally. Free code is always welcome.

The layout was a quick ugly hack a CF developer friend did when he was doing the monster queries for the my comments/posts page, and I've never gotten around to rewriting it.
