Passwords October 19, 2005 4:22 PM Subscribe
Did someone try to steal my awesome account? I just got my password emailed to me, with a statement that I requested it, but... I didn't request it.
I got an email saying I requested The Monkey's password, too.

And now that you've mentioned it, expect to get several more.

Sometimes it's innocent. I'm sure there are a lot of monkey-related usernames, and the person is mis-remembering their username/password, swearing up and down that they were The Monkey when maybe they signed up as A Monkey ages ago.

angry modem, it may well be trivial, and I don't see any solution, but I also thought it was unusual.
mr_crash_davis, a couple. It's different when it's just jokers being stupid, though.
mathowie, that sounds likely, I'm sure you're right.
Oh, there go another six. *adds filter*

It's Raining Florence Henderson wins the thread. And also the handle competition.

wakko wins the thread.
delmoi and Plutor lose the thread for claming that someone 'won the thread'.

It may not necessarily be monkleyfishing. It could be monkey spiders.

I can imagine that there are at least three people who would covet such a high-profile account. One of those people . . . has been murdered.

I've often "thought" I had a certain username, tried to request the password, and never got the mail. Someone may simply have a bad memory and think they had your username.

Just happened to me this morning. I don't think anyone has a username close to mine, so someone is probably trying to be a sneakypants.
P.S. My password is urabuttlmao; hope that helps.
