Agregation sites as FPPs
These seem to be a lot of FPPs that are links to aggregation sites that pretty much take content other people have done, put a bunch of it together, and add ads.
For instance, since the beginning of May this year, there have been 20 FPPs that include links to BoredPanda. (link is to a search of metafilter for instances of boredpanda)
There are fewer links to similar sites like Viral Nova
Can't stop the signal.
Can we please either discuss or determine what guidelines we should be following for doxxing / revealing personal info about the subjects of linked content in a thread? [more inside]

What, besides the content of the link, do you consider when posting?
It feels like the internet has changed from a time when some friend might IM you a link to cat-scan.com and you'd think 'I have no idea how these people got their cats wedged in their scanners or why' and post a link to that site to Metafilter. With social media and content aggregators and embeds, the same basic content can appear in a whole lot of different contexts -- you might see it on Facebook's sidebar, or BuzzFeed or Bored Panda or all of the above. So which one do you link to? How much does context matter when the post is supposed to be about the content? [more inside]

Everything is fine?
Every so often someone proposes we avoid discussion of unhappy outcomes in general but more specifically the unlikelihood of an impeachment in the Trump threads, which now appears to be becoming de facto policy. It seems like it's worth talking over before it does.

The House of Orientalism
Please STOP writing about Asian people and Asian countries (Southeast Asian here) like they are
magical mysterious fairytale creatures from a long-ago-faraway exoticized Orient. Framing posts in this style is immediately alienating and hurtful, and it derails any possible discussion. It is not the same as writing about Western white people in this style, because white people have not been subject to the same patronizing
orientalist prejudices that people from Asian countries have.

let's talk about the U.S. politics megathreads
There's a small discussion at the end of the May 30th U.S. politics thread (starting here) about when the megathreads should be "rolled over" into a new thread. Let's talk about that, and whatever else folks want to talk about with respect to the megathreads. [more inside]

Why allow blocking private messages?
For the first time, I just had another user block my private messages after a polite but heated exchange where I guess they just really wanted the last word. I'm not like offended, but I had never noticed the option to block private messages before, and was wondering what the rationale is there. If someone is spamming or harassing another user, that seems like something that could be resolved through the mods. Is this something that has always been there, and do people use it all the time and I'm just out of the loop?

IRL post achiving pre-event
This IRL post concerns an event with a long lead time. It's been closed/archived long before the event. Should we rethink archiving posts long before the event?
[I tried to use the contact form, but got some weird error page about an invalid construct]

SLFBPs
I am not on Facebook. I'm not going to be on Facebook. When a FPP consists of a single link to a Facebook page, it's not much use to me, since FB blocks half the page with a sign-up popup. Maybe posters could warn us private persons that we'd be wasting our time clicking on the link? Thanks.
