Is it possible and desirable to add Internet Archive links to old posts? [more inside]

Occasionally in a thread someone posts something offensive, derailing, or monstrously long. It would be helpful if there was button next to the comment which one could click to hide said comment and said hiding would be remembered in Recent Activity and across devices. In place of the comment would be a single line of text that says "hidden comment", with the hide/unhide button next to it. This would, in theory, make it easier to skip derails, obnoxious, and/or long comments. The ridiculously long comments are particularly problematic in Recent Activity, where they repeatedly appear for a while. What say you?

I'd like to return, if possible, to the previously discussed pony request that the site find some way to label/tag/denote paywalled or subscriber locked articles (or sites which haven't bothered updating to GDPR regulations, but this is a small side pony as I'm aware it doesn't apply to everyone). Clicking a link in a post only to smack into a wall is getting increasingly tiresome (and happening with increasing frequency). [more inside]

I just happened to come across my old flickr account, and it had some pictures I'd taken over a decade back, when dad was still alive and mom was ...not as... senior-ish, as she is now. They both looked really happy together, at the time. I don't think I may have seen my father ever smile, a bit, or mom being as accepting as she was of her husband. [more inside]

MeFi user profiles show a user's most used tags for the Blue and the Green. Could we find a way to add, and would other users be interested in adding, FanFare and maybe MeTa tags to that, too?

I propose having a 'music' category in Fanfare. I know we can, and do, post music in MeFi proper, but it would be good to have place to geek out over individual albums or songs or music videos in a way the Blue isn't really designed for.

I would like to request that, when considering how to delete things and preserve privacy, we adopt these three practices:

1. Deliberately leaving empty spaces / blanked comments / deletion notices as replacements for comments in threads that have been closed to discussion and have additional comments removed (e.g. via an account purge). This will help keep discussions that have faded into site history in order while also preserving privacy
2. Provides some means -preferably not entailing any kind of download or export- for users to access their own comments on posts/questions/etc. that have been purged. This will let folks remember their own contributions, even if the context has necessarily been lost
3. If user A sends user B a memail, user B keeps that memail even if user A purges their account.

A new feature has been rolled out site wide to block the ability to make posts or comments with a specific egregious racial slur and variants. Mods currently delete comments with other slurs as fast as they can after the comment is flagged but the community has decided we'd rather not have those words appear even for a short time (previously). Currently if your text includes a prohibited word your ability to post/comment is disabled. This thread is for discussing which other words fall into the category of racial slurs which should similarly be prevented from appearing in the site under any circumstances. [more inside]

During the Winter Solstice holiday season, there's a shopping mall. There are MeFites and MeFi-affiliateds who make masks. Perhaps we could support them? There are mask questions on Ask.Me, so there's a market. [more inside]

Occasionally there are site-wide messages that pop up in the header of the site (e.g. currently there's one about a BIPOC advisory board). These messages can be really tiny on mobile, and currently the hide button isn't clickable on my mobile device. Two requests below the fold. [more inside]
